The Horseman Flies: In late 1953, having obtained his commercial pilot's license on his own, he became a member of the Air Division of the RCMP. For the next twenty years he piloted single and twin engine aircraft throughout Canada, particularly in the arctic areas where navigation aids were the ability to spot a bright yellow building or recognize a bend in a river. Points of call included tiny arctic hamlets and an igloo. Passengers were prisoners, sled dogs, RCMP members, Inuit, and dignitaries, including the entire British Royal Family.
