Daisy Callison was born to early pioneer parents in 1919. She and her brother, Dennis, were the first white twins to be born in what was then called “Pouce Coupe Prairie”. She still has deep attachment to the land of her birth. Daisy considers herself very fortunate to have had first-hand contact with the last days of homesteading, the old threshing crews, trapping, hunting, dog teams, freighting with horses, pack horses, gold mining, early radio and flying days, oil discovery and to have been there before and while the Alaska Highway was built. In 1935 she traveled with her father's pack string from Ft. St. John, across the mountains to McDames Creek. She and her sister, Doris, were the first white women to pass that way. Little did they dream that a highway would be forced through the mountains in just a few short years. For considerable distances, the Alaska Highway follows the trail blazed by her father.
