The Queen Charlotte Islands, or Haida Gwaii as it is known locally, is remotely situated off the west coast of British Columbia. Considered “The Galapagos of the North” for its many distinct sub-species of plants and animals, the southern 1/3 of the Islands are contained within the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Protected Site, named the best National Park in North America in 2005.

George Fischer has assembled photos from all of the Islands’ areas to capture the landscape, feeling and community there, from geographic landforms such as Balance Rock and Tow Hill to local faces and cultural attractions like the Qay’llnagaay Heritage Centre, St. Mary’s Spring, even a Haida potlatch ceremony.
