Frances Lackey Paul wrote her story in 1938. When published by Alaska Northwest Books in 1976, her original 1938 preface was edited to bring it up to date to explain the Tlingit tribal system. In 1966, after being out of print for over a decade, the book was reissued and the preface was again updated to further explain traditional Tlingit social customs and to clarify some wording. The Story has been reproduced as it was originally written; only minor wording was changed in a few spots for clarification.
This is a captivating true story of a Tlingit girl in Southeast Alaska in the 1800s.
